DMY – professionals day

Andreas Tölke talks to Angelika Taschen, Piero Lissoni and Johan Karlsson

The programme of the DMY – professionals day will put a focus on Brand Building, a topic that plays an increasingly important role in the international design business. With exciting talks on how to build a brand, establishing and improving the identity of the brand, DMY puts this important topic in a special focus. Subsequent to the talks, there will be a short Q&A offering the visitors the possibility to pose their questions.

At 1pm, Robert Stulle, Director of Digital Products and Services as well as Managing Partner of edenspiekermann Berlin, will talk about brand building in the field of digital design.

Titled „ Tölke meets ...“, the internationally renowned design journalist Andreas Tölke invites international designers and design experts to talk about brand building viewed from different perspectives.

For the first talk of the day Andreas Tölke will be hosting succesful publisher, art historian, and design expert Angelika Taschen. Angelika Taschen is currently reinventing herself as an interior designer. For instance, in the hotel Der Seehof in Goldegg, Salzburg she has recently designed and decorated the ANGELIKA SUITE with contemporary design furniture and photo-works by Kirsten Becken, adding another aspect to the brand Angelika Taschen. The talk will concentrate on this very personal form of Brand Building.

Andreas Tölke ́s second guest will be designer and architect Piero Lissoni. Tölke will be discussing Global Brand Building vs. Heritage with Lissoni. Which strategies are relevant for an internationally operating design company? Which role does the specific national design tradition play in brand and product development? How to position a company with a long tradition and history on the international market? These and many more questions have been in Lissoni ́s focus for many years in his work as an Art Director for international and Italian design companies.

His third guest will be Johan Karlsson, At 34 Johan Karlsson is the Head of Business Development at Better Shelter, a social enterprise with the mission to develop and provide innovative housing solutions for the millions of people who loose their homes during conflicts and natural disasters - at prices so low that as many people as possible will benefit from them. His role is to develop and increase the social impact of Better Shelter.
Johan has an MFA in industrial design from Konstfack University College in Stockholm and a BFA in Design from Gothenburg University – and is currently taking an MBA at Stockholm School of Economics.
The Better Shelter is a temporary shelter designed with special attention to transport volume, weight, price, safety as well as health and comfort. It can be assembled on site in 4 to 8 hours without additional tools and equipment, and is fitted with a solar panel and lamp to provide light during the dark hours. The expected lifespan of the shelter is three years. One shelter comes in two flat boxes, 48 of which fit into a 40’ HQ container. The Better Shelter can be disassembled and reused. The shelter offers 17,5 square meters of space with full standing height.

Last but not least managing partner of Houzz Germany Roman Rochel will give a lecture about online-marketing for designers. The importance of efficient use of media will be the focus and thus, how you can strengthen your brand online.
